Sisson and Sisson Law Firm
Thomas Edwin “Pete” Sisson (1927-2009)
founded his Law Firm in 1968. In 1980, the firm expanded to include
Pete’s son, Jerry and became known as Sisson and Sisson Law
Firm. More recently, the firm included a third generation as Jerry’s
daughter, Jennifer, joined the firm. Both Pete and Jerry attended
the University of Memphis as undergraduates, and all three Sissons
graduated from the University of Memphis School of Law.
The Sissons concentrate their practice in real-estate, corporate,
business organization, and probate work. The members of the firm
are also responsive to their civic responsibilities. Pete was a
true public servant, having been elected Commissioner of Public
Works for the City of Memphis prior to starting the firm and then
to the Shelby County Commission. Jerry served on the Tennessee Housing
Development Agency Board of Directors, serving as its Vice Chairman.
Jennifer served as the Chairman of the Real Estate and Environmental
Section of the Memphis Bar Association.
Throughout the firm, “there’s just
a sense that you have to do what’s right, maintaining integrity
for both the firm and our clients” says Jerry. As well, the
Sissons care about their clients’ needs. “We have really
focused on what the client’s objective was and getting them
to that objective. Part of that is measuring risk. I think clients
come to our firm because I will say, ‘here’s a risk;
here is where a problem will exist; here’s how likely it will
happen; and here’s what you can do to minimize it.’”
The firm’s future is to continue the
family tradition. “My father trained me in the legal profession,”
Jerry says. “That’s what I want to do with Jennifer.
I want to make sure she has that breadth of experience dad gave
me to fully represent our clients.”
